SLANTED HOUSE

A HOUSE FOR CO-PARENTING AND CO-EXISTING.

Designed for a single dad and his two almost teenage kids so they could live together and live apart, this small house provides plenty of room for both family communal time and separate spaces for the three of them to retreat to their individual areas. The main level is designed so that the dad can occupy the entire space during those times the kids are with their mom, and each end of the house has a separate loft space which is able to be closed when the kids are away promoting a versatile efficiency.

Slanted House is an open, small, efficient passive house with radiant floors, geothermal wells and on-demand mechanical systems. Large, sliding windows allow for ample light and solar gain and provide instant access to the landscape. The architecture and form follow the program by allowing just enough roof slope in the lofts to gain additional daylight through the glazed skylight slits. The exterior materials are comprised of a simple palette of metal windows, a metal roof and natural unfinished wood siding.

The roof also acts as a catchment apparatus for rainwater harvesting to be used in the greywater system.
