I believe architecture has the potential to be transformative. That the making of space can instill a sense of beauty, can foster a sense of connection with the environment and one another, and that well-conceived space can provide a platform from which to craft a meaningful life.

BIO

Julee K. Taylor makes things. She is an architect, artist, and construction manager living and working in the middle of the Midwest. For over 30 years, she has been involved in designing, building, and crafting built space in one way or another on projects all over the country.

As an architect, Julee revels in creating beautiful form and space. Inspired by both modern art—Donald Judd, Mark Rothko, Andy Goldsworthy—and minimal utilitarian structures—barns, factories, and simple, compact houses—her work is sculptural yet still participatory and engaging. As a construction manager, Julee has successfully guided teams towards completing hundreds of projects on schedule and on budget. Managing these projects has allowed her to fully understand the process of bringing a project to fruition and has helped hone her architectural craft. She frequently feels more like an architect on the construction site than at the drawing table.

Because of her multi-faceted experience in both architecture and construction, Julee is confidently able to create exceptional space, understand and assemble the details, and discern the cost and viability of a project for her clients. She is also an abstract painter and a sculptor of small, detailed works. She spends whatever free time she has on making things, walking in the woods, or exploring the Great Lakes.

Julee has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University in Michigan and a Master of Architecture from the University of California-Berkeley. She is a licensed architect in Minnesota and has lived in and built projects all over the country for three decades.
